Zizi Biantoko is a Kikongo phrase that translates to 'Beautyful Faces'. The face is the heart or core expression of a person, place or a thing. It is the window into its essence: the face of the mountain, the face of the stream, the face of an elder, the face of justice. This is what a photographer seeks to uncover. For me, photography is a vehicle in the search for home, in the search for stories that will inspire Afrikan people wherever WE are and help us to rediscover our way home.

The "beautyful ones" have been conceived and they are here. They are US! And, our children especially magnify that beauty. In these Blacknificent pictures, re-presenting our youth, I can see our uncanny ability to overcome insurmountable odds. More acutely, I feel the power of our ethos and the unique manner in which we are able to embrace life, war and our unceasing movement towards liberation.
